About Me
My name is Sophie and my journey with yoga began in my teens and has continued to deepen over many years of personal practice, study, and teaching. I offer yoga and massage in a way that is thoughtful inclusive and responsive to each individual, with a strong appreciation of the connection between body, mind and lived experience. I welcome people of all ages, stages and levels of experience.
When my own children were young, I felt drawn to explore yoga more fully and trained as an instructor with the Devon School of Yoga. With a background as a primary school teacher, it felt natural to go on to complete postgraduate studies in pregnancy yoga, including postnatal mother and baby yoga, with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli as well as yoga for children and teenagers, with Jo Manuel.
Over the years, I have taught a wide range of students, including children with SEND, social and emotional needs, and severe mobility challenges. I have also had the privilege of teaching both group and private pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes. For several years, my third child was my enthusiastic assistant, helping me teach mothers with their babies, then young children and their carers—a joyful and grounding experience that shaped my approach to teaching families.
My passion and care for health and wellbeing, across the life course, weaves through all that I do. I have spent time working in research, exploring areas such as social-prescribing, patient perspectives of health services, professional preparedness for practice and projects addressing health inequalities, particularly for children and young people.
I am a curious person with a love of learning, so to deepen my understanding of the body I trained as a Sports Massage Therapist. Massage has become an important part of my practice, allowing me to work more directly and therapeutically with the physical body. I incorporate holistic therapeutic approaches into my massage work, creating an experience that is supportive, thoughtful, and responsive to each individual.
The aim of my Blooming Bodhi offerings is to hold space, so you can feel supported, listened to and at ease in body and mind.
